| Meet the Teachers

"Miss Carol"
- Carol Grady joined East Columbia Preschool in 2001 as
the teacher of the 3s and 4s.
- Carol is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of California
at Los Angeles (UCLA) with undergraduate degrees in Economics
and Art History. She has completed 45 hours of continuing education
credits in Maryland State approved Early childhood development
topics.
- Carol is CPR and First Aid certified.
- Her work and volunteer history includes being Director of Preschool
Religious Education Programs at Holy Spirit Church in San Jose
California, YWCA Family Life Education Instructor for Early Childhood
Behavior, Explorer Preschool Cooperative Board of Directors, Howard
County Board of Education Inaugural Friends of Education Award
Recipient, Life Member of Maryland PTA, One on One elementary
school reading tutor, One on One aide to special needs elementary
student, Fine Arts Picture Parent, Cultural Arts Chair person
at elementary and middle school level, Girls Scout leader for
eleven years, 14 years as a Children's liturgy of the Word Homilist
at the Church of the Resurrection.
- She is proud mother of two college students.
"Miss Kelly"
- Kelly Carney has been teaching at ECP for 11 years. She is currently the teacher for the 4s and 5s classes.
- A lifetime Maryland resident, Kelly graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in English. She performed her student teaching in Howard County at Stevens Forest Elementary and Bryant Woods Elementary.
- Kelly worked in the Membership and Publications Departments of the International Fabricare Institute (IFI) for six years, where she wrote, edited and published trade association technical journals, newsletters, and public relations materials.
- Following the birth of her two children, she continued to work for IFI, writing on a free-lance basis and speaking at association seminars for several years. While filling many volunteer positions in the public school system and serving as the president of Dasher Green Nursery School, now East Columbia Preschool (ECP).
- Kelly worked part-time at the Owen Brown Community Center (OBCC) and at Junior Editions Book Store in Columbia Mall.
- Kelly has been teaching the Pre-K classes at ECP for ten years. During this time, she has also served as the PTA president at Jeffers Hill Elementary, Oakland Mills Middle School, and Oakland Mills High School (OMHS). Carney continues to work part-time at the OBCC, and assists students with career and college counseling at the Student Services Center at OMHS.
- As she begins her 11th year of teaching at ECP, Kelly looks forward to developing relationships with new students and pursuing further professional training in the field of education.
